Have you heard the term 'Super El Niño' this fall? Here's what it actually means — and what it could mean for your home this winter.

El Niño is a warming of the Pacific Ocean that pushes the jet stream south. This one is exceptionally strong — Pacific waters are about 2.4°C above normal and still warming, and NOAA says a 'very strong' El Niño is essentially locked in, possibly the strongest since 1950.

For Colorado, that pattern aims the storm track at our mountains — more snow. But the risk to homes is not the average winter, it is the swings: heavy snow, a hard freeze, then a fast thaw. That cycle bursts pipes, builds ice dams, and pushes meltwater into walls and basements. Homes left empty between visits are the most exposed.

Before deep winter: know where your main shut-off valve is, insulate exposed pipes, disconnect hoses, and keep the heat on in empty homes.

If water does get in, shut it off first, then call ECOS at (970) 476-3267 — we're here 24/7, all winter.

A colder system moves in this weekend, Vail — with snow and the coldest nights yet this season expected Monday into Tuesday. If you prepped your pipes last week, you're ahead of it. If not, this is the weekend to do it: find your main water shut-off valve, insulate exposed pipes, open cabinet doors under sinks on outside walls on the coldest nights, and let faucets drip. Burst pipe or leak? Shut off the water first, then call ECOS Vail at (970) 476-3267 — we're here 24/7.

Clean Up More Than What You Can See.

Smoke and soot can settle throughout your property.

After a fire, cleaning up the visible damage is only part of the process.

Smoke and soot can settle on surfaces, furniture, ceilings, walls, and belongings. Odors may also remain after the fire has been extinguished.

ECOS provides professional fire and smoke cleanup services to help address affected areas and support the restoration process.
Depending on the situation, restoration may involve:
• Smoke and soot cleanup
• Surface cleaning
• Odor-related treatment
• Content cleaning
• Restoration coordination

The right approach depends on the extent and type of damage.

The flames may be gone, but cleanup still matters. Call ECOS today for 24/7 emergency response and professional fire and smoke cleanup services.

A cold night ahead, Vail — right around freezing tonight, with colder nights still coming this week.

One small thing before bed: open the cabinet doors under sinks on outside walls so warm room air reaches those pipes, and make sure you know where your main shut-off valve is, just in case.

Leak or burst pipe? Shut off the water first, then call ECOS at (970) 476-3267.

The cool-down is here, Vail.

Lows are dropping to near or below freezing each night this weekend, with the coldest night still to come on Monday.

Do this today, before tonight: find your main water shut-off valve so you know where it is, and tonight open the cabinet doors under sinks on outside walls so warmer room air can reach those pipes.

If a pipe does leak or burst, shut off the water first, then call ECOS at (970) 476-3267. We will take it from there — calmly and quickly.

The freeze starts tonight, Vail.

Tonight, Friday Oct 23, the low is 27° — well below freezing. More freezing nights follow: 27° Saturday night, 23° Sunday night with snow showers, and the coldest night Monday, Oct 26, at 19°.

Do this today: insulate exposed pipes in your garage, basement, and crawl space with foam pipe sleeves or towels secured with tape. Focus on pipes along outside walls — they feel the cold first.

Our one-page pipe prep checklist is attached. A few minutes today beats a burst pipe tonight. Questions, or a leak already? Call ECOS at (970) 476-3267.

Vail — freezing nights start tonight, and they get colder through the weekend.

Tonight (Friday) drops to 27°, Saturday night is 27° again, Sunday night falls to 23° with snow showers, and Monday night is the coldest at 19°.

Do this today: disconnect garden hoses, cover outdoor faucets, and insulate exposed pipes in garages, basements and crawl spaces — especially pipes on outside walls. On the coldest nights, open cabinet doors under sinks on outside walls and let a faucet drip if your pipes are vulnerable.

If a pipe does leak or burst, shut off the water at the main valve first, then call ECOS Vail at (970) 476-3267 — we're here to help.

Later today we'll share a short pipe-prep checklist to make it easy.
