Our Special Agents recently investigated two separate cases resulting in three arrests and multiple felony charges.

🔎 In Charlotte, Christopher Bernard Hammonds, 40, and Ashely Marie Sowers, 35, were arrested and charged in connection with an alleged insurance fraud scheme involving a vehicle and fraudulent rental and storage claims. Investigators used license plate reader data, photographs and law enforcement records to uncover inconsistencies in the claims.

🔎 Warren County man, Melvin Junior Jones, 53, was arrested and charged after investigators accused him of filing a fraudulent insurance claim involving a restaurant. Investigators also uncovered similar claims involving two Waffle House locations and a Denny’s.

These cases highlight the important work our Criminal Investigations Division does every day to investigate suspected fraud and protect North Carolina consumers and businesses.

🏠 CHARGED: ROOFING FRAUD

Two Mecklenburg County brothers have pleaded guilty to charges related to a roofing scam sting in Wake County late last year.

Our Criminal Investigations Division worked with Farm Bureau’s Special Investigations Unit to investigate and issue charges against Brett and Robert Bentley.

The investigation used a “bait house” to catch roofing company employees intentionally damaging a roof to create unnecessary repair work and support a fraudulent insurance claim.

This is just one example of how our Special Agents and Fraud Control Group are working with insurance companies and law enforcement partners to uncover fraud and protect North Carolina consumers.

Today we fix a new one that someone else has put on we want back and fix pop up OSB plywood that was pop up! This morning we did a small Roof Repair we put in 2 of 750-Vents then we put on 2 new pipes boot caps and seal them off! Then seal around Fire Chimney and fix nail pops and nail back down Ridge Vent and Cap! Guys if you are having trouble with your Roof or Gutters or Drain Lines please give us a call! Today we repair Roof we seal Fire Chimney and put in new step flashing then we remove old pipe boot that pipe is no longer there we cover it up with wood and put in new shingles and we replace 2 old pipes boots with new one and we add caps over top of them then seal around them! Then we remove 10 pic of shingles cap that doesn’t not match with the cap so we put in the right cap. We seal walls and fix nail pops and nail Ridge Vent back down and blow off Roof and Gutters!! Plus we put in 4 of the 750-vents to help ventilation so the heat can escape! So the AC unit doesn’t have to work so hard!! Today we did a roof repair water was coming into a family home and running down wall! They had a handman come out put foam under the soffit and that did not fix it! After doing more investigation we found a hole in the Roof so we took out bad wood spray it down to remove black mold put in new wood and put in new shingles. We also repaired 2 Fire Chimney the step flashing was pop out so we took care of that as well seal transition that’s what both roofs comes together. So we cleaned up our mass and on to the next one!
