As we gear up for the New Year celebrations, it’s important to make sure everyone stays safe and has a good time. 🎆 Whether you’re hitting the town or just hanging out with friends, a few small tips can make a huge difference...

- Stay with a buddy if going out into unfamiliar areas—never risk walking alone late at night, especially when under the influence.

- Opt for a rideshare or have a designated driver if you've been drinking.

- With winter weather here, be mindful of road conditions and dress warmly for outdoor activities.

- Setting off fireworks? Never try to relight a ‘dud’—safely soak it in water instead!

- And we're sure you’ve heard this a thousand times, but stay alert on the road. Just because you’re driving sober does NOT mean everyone else around you is.

Great news for worker safety! 👷‍♂️👷‍♀️ recently reported an 11% drop in death investigations for FY 2024 compared to FY 2023, with notable reductions in trenching and fall-related fatalities. This positive trend is a testament to the ongoing efforts of OSHA, industry partners, and safety-conscious organizations to prioritize worker health and safety.

CATSI is proud to contribute to this progress through our inspection and safety services across industries where hazards like falls and structural risks are ever-present. We are excited to introduce William Edelman Jr., our newest API Inspector at CATSI! Leveraging his experience and proven track record in the industry, we know that Bill will be a valuable addition to our team. He began his career in 2003, specializing in Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Penetrant Testing (PT), and Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), later earning his API 570 certification in 2007 and API 510 certification in 2009. Bill has worked extensively in multiple refineries across New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware, handling both turnaround work and everyday API inspections.

🏭 In the world of chemical process equipment, two key questions stand out: what to check and how often? Proper inspections are critical to ensuring safety. In fact, according to the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board (CSB), approximately 70% of incidents in chemical facilities could have been prevented through better process safety management and regular equipment inspections. Here are some important tips:

Pressure Vessels: Include any vessel with a pressure >15 psig or with a vacuum rating on your inspection list. Don't forget pipe coils and most filters, as they rely on pressure to move fluid.

Corrosion: Always consider corrosion when scheduling inspections. Corrosive service can significantly shorten equipment life.

Pressure Relief Systems: Regularly replace rupture discs and test relief valves, especially in high-risk areas like chlorine operations.

Other Items: Periodic inspections are also essential for atmospheric and low-pressure tanks, piping, instruments, electrical systems, structural steel, and sewers.
