Septic myths can cost homeowners thousands of dollars. I have heard it all, but the one that can really cost you, as long as I'm not having any problems I don't need to pump my tank. What you put into the tank doesn't magically disappear. It breaks down over time and accumulates in the bottom of the tank. Sooner or later, it's going to accumulate to the point of discharging into the drain field. When that happens, it will cause a failure. If it's been a while since your tank has been pumped give us a call.

Is it ok to plant anything around the septic tank or drain field? No, but if you do planting should be limited to annuals and shallow-rooted decorative bushes. Larger bushes or trees may send long root systems into the distribution lines and have even been known to grow all the way back and sometimes into the septic tank!

Did you know that most septic tanks only hold 1000 gallons of liquid? If you have your tank pumped dry it will be back to the normal level in less than a week, after this it will retain the solids and begin breaking them down, then every gallon of water that enters the tank will flow into the drain field through the outlet T. A gallon in a gallon out.

Just a reminder to our customers to make sure your toilets are not leaking. I see a lot of toilets leaking into the septic tank when I pump them. Of course, I let the homeowner know, but if you are unaware of this it can cause problems, like flooding your drain field and who wants to pay for wasted water.
