What's your favorite way to use up scrap wood?

With all the projects I do, I wind up with random size scraps and always hold onto them thinking I'll use them some day. This table is made entirely from those scraps which helps me feel better about keeping them all this time, and also about the damage this table will take being my daughter's play table. 😂

The top is all walnut, the bottom is a bunch of random light wood scraps I'm terrible at identifying.

If you like it and want something made for yourself, let me know! I have plenty of scraps left still, somehow...

Working on a new table! This is a 45 inch circle table and it's part one of a new coffee table I'm making.

The coolest part of this one, to me, is that each walnut brick is made from scraps I had in the shop. In this table is represented a piece of walnut from every project I've used walnut in, over there course of the last five years. All of the character and color just goes to show why I love walnut!

My latest finished project - a dresser for my daughter! She helped me pick out and put on the drawer k***s and that is easily her favorite part of it. I'm hoping that changes when she isn't three anymore 😂

Finally back at it in the shop after a busy contract at my "real job." I recently made a walnut bench and used sapele for bowties. I liked the combo, so I made this end table with the two.

Big thanks to for the awesome walnut pieces I used for it, and for the ever simple and always reliable finish.

If you happen to be looking for a gift for your valentine, and you know they love walnut cutting boards - look no further!

If you want it, I can even customize it for free. You know, a couple of intertwined red hearts, a name, or I could inscribe it with "to love's eternal glory."

Back in the shop this week! Well, barely in the shop since we traveled for the holidays and are quarantined for precautions which has me home with my daughter all week.

But, figured I'd post my latest trophy anyway - my first ever triggered saw stop blade! There is an eighth inch of my finger that's glad to still be attached; I should hang this in the shop somewhere right?

Delivered to today! Thankfully they had a crew to help me move it! And, bonus points, it still looks good in the bright lights outside of my dingy garage haha.

I waffled for about an hour trying to decide what I wanted to do to attach the casters and my favorite part of dropping it off was that, not only did the notice the detail, but they loved it too. Those are some of the best moments of designing custom furniture for people!

Shout-outs:

Wood - it's all white oak, and literally all of the 5/4 white oak that had.

I've been pretty absent from Instagram, but not from the shop! Super excited to get this reception desk dropped off tomorrow. It's another new thing for me, and I'm pretty excited with how it turned out.

And it's a desk! It comes completely with under the table hidden cord storage and a built in wireless charger. It was a beast to put up but excited that it's in finally!

Eventually the open end will be a counter with cabinets, but this is a win for today.

I'm loving how this desk project is turning out! It's hard to tell from these shots, but hopefully soon I'll have a completed desk to share. These I share for my pro tip of the day:

If you have to cut pockets for big inlays - save yourself the mess and effort and instead of routing the entire pocket cut the pocket into small sections, chisel those out, and then clean up what's left. A lot less time, less wear and tear on the machine and the router bits, and a lot less dust in the ol shop.

This inlay I did because there was a large crack/void in the wood. Epoxy is easy to use, but using a piece of the scrap from the project for the repair is more cost effective and better for the environment. Win, win!
