When underground services get congested, knowing what’s below the surface matters.

Our team recently completed a private utility locate where multiple electrical conduits, water service, and other utilities were located around a hydro service pole and well pump.

Using GPR, we traced the apparent paths of the services and field-marked their locations to help the project team understand what was below grade before excavation.

When several services are running through the same area, having a clearer picture of what’s underground can help reduce the risk of hitting an unknown line and prevent costly damage or delays.

That’s a question that should be answered before drilling, coring, or making a pe*******on into a post-tensioned concrete slab.

As AFT Construction demonstrates in this video, post-tensioned slabs require careful consideration before modifications are made. Accidentally cutting a post-tension tendon can result in a sudden release of stored energy, creating the potential for serious injury, structural damage, or even death.

Concrete can contain reinforcing steel, post-tension tendons, conduits, and other embedded elements that aren't visible from the surface.

Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) provides a non-destructive way to investigate these subsurface conditions before drilling, coring, cutting, anchoring, or other concrete work begins.

Before the balcony screens were removed, our team identified and field-marked embedded reinforcing elements and post-tension tendons across the balcony areas.

We later returned once the screens were removed to complete additional scanning and verify the marked locations.
