John recently completed a total transformation of our front walkway, replacing the tired, early-1990s red interlocking pavers that had settled into what could best be described as a small ocean swell near the front door. In their place is a stunning natural bluestone walkway with a decorative brick border, seamlessly integrated with four substantial bluestone steps that intelligently work with the grade of the property rather than pretending gravity doesn't exist. Adjacent to the steps, John brilliantly incorporated natural stone accents that visually carry the lines of the staircase into the surrounding landscape beds, creating a seamless transition between the hardscape and plantings. It's one of those subtle design touches that elevates the entire project from excellent craftsmanship to landscape artistry.
The project is beautifully framed with mulch beds, elegant Sweetbay Magnolias on either side of the walkway, classic low-voltage lighting at each step and throughout the plantings, and finished with premium-quality mulch that ties everything together. The result is a dramatic facelift that gives our home the presence and curb appeal it deserved all along.
What impressed us most was that while John is clearly a highly talented craftsman, that description alone doesn't quite do him justice. He approaches projects more like an artist and landscape architect than a contractor. He sees the finished vision long before the first stone is laid, blending hardscape, lighting, grading, plantings, and proportion into a design that feels as though it has always belonged there. The walkway doesn't simply lead to the front door—it enhances the entire property.
Originally, we had hoped to complete the project last fall, but thanks to our late scheduling and the annual intervention of the Winter Gods, the work had to wait until spring. John stayed true to his word, honored his commitment, and delivered exactly what he promised.
Throughout the project, John was professional, punctual, communicative, and attentive to every detail. Watching him work, one gets the distinct impression that this isn't his first rodeo. He came highly recommended by longtime friends and has completed projects for neighbors as well, and now we understand why his reputation is so strong.
