Calcium is the structural variable in your pool. Think of it as the bones, the frame, the foundation of the house.
It is not a sanitizer. It is not a buffer. What it does is define how your water interacts with every solid surface it touches: tile, plaster, PVC, your heater, your pump.
Here is the part most owners miss. Your water is always seeking equilibrium. When calcium runs too high with high pH, you get scale on tile and equipment. Heaters fail. Pumps seize. When calcium runs too low, the water starts pulling calcium out of your plaster and pipes to find balance. On a salt pool, that effect gets worse.
Your pool is always doing one of two things: rebuilding itself or eating itself. Balance your calcium and you control how fast that happens on either end.
When your pool is speaking, it is smart to listen.
