Many times homeowners attempt to save on cost by DIY. So, what are the benefits of a contractor?
- Homeowners can get in over their head or be too inexperienced to complete a job correctly. This can lead to issues with projects having to be redone down the line. Also, when selling a home, many buyers can be deterred by subpar work.
- Contractors are licensed and insured. Insured contractors are required to be experienced in their field to obtain insurance and are required to register in any city they are doing work in. For you, this means that the contractors are held to a standard. Contractors are versed in codes and regulations and can insure that your project passes inspections.
- Contractors have supplier relationships. They tend to get better costs on material vs a homeowner going to a retail store. Many suppliers will not sell to the public so homeowners don’t have access to competitive material costs. As well as contractors have worked with many brands and can advise on cost vs. quality of material.
- Lastly, time = money. Homeowners may plan to DIY a project themselves and find it becomes too time consuming or drags out. A contractor can set aside dedicated time to complete your project. Also, it only hurts a contractor if they do a job incorrectly and have to go back and fix their work, or if they take too long completing a project when that time wasted could be used on another project.
