Most people walk into a showroom, fall in love with how something looks, and make a $10,000 decision based on that.
I've watched it happen more times than I can count.
I spent 30 years on the materials side of this industry before I ever ran a remodeling company. Walked slab yards. Sat through hundreds of product trainings. Worked directly with manufacturers and distributors across the country. That background is the reason I do this differently.
So before you pick your countertop — watch this.
I'm breaking down the four surfaces I get asked about most. Quartz, Quartzite, Marble, and Granite. The real pros. The real cons. And the insider details nobody at the showroom is going to volunteer.
A few things I cover that most people never hear:
Quartz has a heat threshold around 300°F. Those resin binders that make it low-maintenance? They will warp if you set a hot pan directly on the surface — and your warranty voids the same day.
Half the "quartzite" being sold at slab yards right now is actually marble or dolomite. It looks identical. But it etches exactly like marble the first time something acidic touches it. There's a simple acid test I walk you through. It takes 30 seconds and it will save you from a very expensive mistake.
Marble etches because it's calcium carbonate. Acids don't stain it — they chemically dissolve the surface. That mark doesn't buff out. But there's a finish choice that changes everything about living with marble — and most designers know it. Most homeowners don't.
Granite is not the nineties countertop people think it is. Look up Blue Bahia. Calacatta Gold granite. Cosmic Black. Then tell me that kitchen looks dated.
The right countertop isn't the one that stops you in the showroom. It's the one you'll still love five years from now when life has happened all over it.
That's what this video is about. That's what I'm here for.
Watch it. Share it with someone who's planning a kitchen remodel. And drop your questions in the comments — I read every one.
