Went out to the garden🪴 and noticed some major defoliation on my tomato plants.
Of course…. The tomato hornworm. 🐛
These chunky, camouflage-expert caterpillars can decimate a plant overnight.
If you’re battling these little monsters this summer, how are you handling them?

Tips on how to deal:

The Blacklight Hack: Did you know they glow like scorpions under a blacklight at dusk? Planning to try this tonight so I can spot them hiding!

Hand-Picking: Searching the stems and dropping them into a bucket of soapy water. Or in my case give them to the chicken for a snack.

Organic Spray: Looking into Monterey Garden Spinosad or Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) if the numbers get out of control.

The Wasp Rule
Crucial tip: If you see white, rice-like cocoons on their backs, leave them alone! That means beneficial braconid wasps are doing the work to naturally control the hornworm population.

Marigolds earn their space in the garden 🌼 A few reasons I like planting them:
🐝 They help bring in pollinators when they’re blooming
🍅 They look great tucked around tomatoes and peppers
☀️ They love sunny spots and don’t need much fuss
🌱 They’re easy to grow from seed or starter plants
✂️ Deadheading keeps them flowering longer
🥕 They add color while making veggie beds feel fuller
They’re not magic, but they’re one of the easiest flowers to mix into a vegetable garden.
