Before this storm comes please read. Hands down my most popular phone call I receive. Always comes the following day after a good rain. Now most of us have 2.5 baths in our house & most of us have a garage. It is very common for most of you to over look / neglect the outlet by the back door the seal is almost always deteriorating ,the cover is left open or broken. With this said if your bathrooms, garage and outside outlet go out please do not call me lol. Wait for the rain to stop, take a blow dryer to the backdoor outlet and dry it out. Or now that you are being informed this is all on the same circuit go replace the backdoor outlet and cover before it becomes a problem and you start panicking for a electrician. Here is your tip for the day and I hope everyone has a great weekend with their friends and family.

The plummeting temperatures expected this evening may inspire you to dust off your portable space heater. As you cozy up to your additional heat source, keep these tips in mind to prevent an accidental fire:
● Plug space heaters directly into the wall (do not use extension cords or power strips)
● Place them on a flat and level surface
● Turn space heaters off when going to bed or leaving a room
● Keep all objects at least 3 feet away from heat sources.

You should call an electrician if...

1. Your Power is Inconsistent:
Inconsistent power is a common problem. You turn on a light, and it flickers and buzzes.

2. Your System is Old:
The majority of the homes in our area were built in the 80s, and the architects and electricians of that era could never have imagined the electrical support we would require in the modern age. It is dangerous to just pile on plug strips and other outlet modifications to compensate for a lack of plug space.

3. You Are Making Frequent Trips in Your Panel
In any home, the occasional tripped breaker is just part of running a household. Your breaker will blow now and then, but if there is a certain outlet or light bank that fails regularly, that is something you need to fix.

4. You Do Not Have Enough (or Any) GFCI Outlets
A Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) is a specialized outlet designed specifically for spaces containing excess moisture — think garages, kitchens, bathrooms, or outdoors. GFCI outlets prevent the risk of electrocution by shutting off their current if the outlet comes into contact with water. Modern building codes require them in all areas where water exposure could be reasonably expected.

5. Your Outlets are Shocking You
We all know the brief but startling jolt of static electricity. But if you are getting a shock every time you use a particular outlet.

Watch out for overloaded outlets to protect your home.
Overloading an electrical outlet is a common cause of electrical problems. An overloaded circuit occurs when a circuit handles more electricity than it's designed for, potentially causing safety hazards like fires or damage to appliances. Signs include flickering lights, buzzing outlets, warm outlets, and burning odors.

Check all outlets to ensure they are cool to the touch, have protective face plates and are in proper working order. You can follow these electrical outlet safety tips:
•Do not use extension cords or multi-outlet converters for appliances.
•Only plug one heat-producing appliance into an outlet at a time.
•Hot outlets should be checked by qualified electricians.
•Remember that power strips only add outlets—they do not change the amount of power the outlet receives.
•Smart plugs can be used to monitor outlet power loads and even shut off appliances should an outlet begin to overheat.

Dedicated Circuits are important so that you don't overload the circuit and cause them to trip. All major appliances should be on a dedicated circuit.

Neptune Electric LLC & Neptune Mechanical . Taylor & I have every license in VA. Stop being duked by these Class A contractors who are not allowed to do any trade work legally. Just because you're a class A, you still can not do trades legally by Virginia law. We have all those licenses from the ground up. Stop messing with a class A. It means nothing. You still have to have licenses for electrical, plumbing, HVAC, gas, builders, etc. You can be a class A- handman or painter or car cleaner. You definitely do not have A license for real work/trades. If you look up the difference between a Class A, B and C license, it is literally only the difference between the total project amount allowed. It doesn't mean that person is more qualified.

02/27/2025

Arc Fault Circuit Interrupters (AFCIs) are a fire prevention safety requirement in the current 2020 National Electrical Code® (NEC®). This is now required on all new construction and new circuits. AFCI protection is not required for outlets located outside or in garages or bathroom areas, but required everywhere else.

ELECTRICAL PANEL INSPECTIONS
Electrical panel inspections are crucial to ensure it’s up to code,
operating safely, and meeting your electrical demands.

If you think of your home’s electrical wiring as the central nervous system in your body, the electrical panel is the brain. Also known as the breaker box, circuit panel, or junction box, the electrical panel is where electricity enters your home from the outside grid and distributes to various circuits within the building. The panel ensures your home’s electrical devices receive the correct amount of electricity. And each circuit is protected by a breaker, which trips to cut off power if an overload is detected. Understanding the signs of needing an electrical panel upgrade is crucial for the safety and functionality of your home. Learn 12 signs that your electrical panel may be due for an upgrade.
1. Constantly Tripping Circuit Breakers
2. Flickering or Dimming Lights
3.Undersized Panel with No Room for Additional Breakers
4.Using Multiple Extension Cords and Power Strips
5. Old or Outdated Panel
6. Melting or Burnt Wires and Breakers
7. Odd Sounds Coming from the Panel
8. Rusted or Broken Panel
9. Fuses Instead of Circuit Breakers
10.Voltage Issues and Power Surges
11. Plans to Install New Appliances
12. Upcoming Home Renovation

Keep up to date on safety requirements and codes with Neptune Electric.
