Cabinet installation looks straightforward until you're trying to hold a full-height unit in place while keeping it level, plumb, and lined up with the one next to it.

Here's what makes the difference between cabinets that stay put and ones that sag or shift:

✓ Shim every cabinet individually before securing it
✓ Check plumb on both sides, not just one
✓ Screw into studs at multiple points per cabinet
✓ Clamp adjoining cabinets together before fastening
✓ Double-check level after each install, not at the end

✗ Don't assume your walls or floors are level (they rarely are)
✗ Don't skip the blocking or reinforcement for heavy uppers
✗ Don't rush the alignment between units

This one was storm-worn and at the end of its lifespan, so we took it down to the deck. Full tear-off, then TAMKO Titan XT architectural shingles in Shadow Grey, new drip edge, ice & water in the valleys, and continuous ridge vent to get this attic breathing right.

The chimney sat in a low-slope section that shingles can’t cover. That area got a self-adhered base and granulated cap sheet, color-matched so it blends right into the field.
