Some of our favorite moments happen during the finishing stages of a build. Sanding, checking the fit, making small adjustments—it's where custom details come to life.

These built-in cabinets, nestled between reclaimed beams, were designed specifically for this home. They don't just add storage—they create character, warmth, and a sense that this space was always meant to be here.

That's the beauty of a custom home. It's an opportunity to build around the way you want to live, filling it with details that are both functional and meaningful.

So we're curious... if you could add one feature to your dream home, what would it be? A hidden pantry? A reading nook? A timber-framed great room? A workshop? Tell us in the comments—we'd love to hear your ideas.

What is Derek doing today?

Technically, our site lead is outside carefully securing boards to concrete footings and making sure everything is exactly where it needs to be.

But we don’t want the technical answer.

We want your best wrong answers only. Is he building a ski jump? Starting Vermont’s smallest boardwalk? Creating an extremely complicated place to put his coffee?

Whatever the answer, Derek is probably making sure it’s level, secure, and done right. Drop your best guess below. 👇

Our Boulder Pass home is coming along beautifully, and we’re reaching that point in the build where all of the individual details are starting to come together.

Outside, the stonework and siding continue to take shape, giving the home a strong connection to its Vermont surroundings and setting the tone before you ever walk through the door.

Inside, the finishes are starting to shine. Tile is going into the bathrooms, while reclaimed wood beams and trim bring warmth, history, and character throughout the home. These are the details we’ve been looking forward to seeing since the early stages of the build.

There’s still work to be done, but Boulder Pass is starting to show us exactly what it’s going to be — and we like what we see.

Built with character. Built for its surroundings. Built to last.

To someone walking through a jobsite, the work of a finish carpenter can seem a little repetitive.

Measure. Sand. Test the fit. Repeat.

The same motions, over and over again.

But to our team, that's where craftsmanship lives.

Every piece of trim, every joint, every reveal is an opportunity to slow down and make sure it's just right. It's the patience to measure one more time, the willingness to sand one more edge, and the pride in testing the fit until it's perfect.

These aren't the moments that usually make the highlight reel, but they're the moments that define the finished home. They're the details our clients may never consciously notice—but they'll feel them every time they walk through the space.

At Roots Builders, we believe exceptional homes aren't built by rushing through the process. They're built by people who care enough to get the little things right.

Because the difference is always in the details.

What makes the perfect Vermont setting?

For us, it's a thoughtful blend of natural materials and the landscape that surrounds them. Stone that feels like it came from the mountains. Timber that brings warmth and character. Metal details that add strength and contrast. Together, they create a home that feels rooted in its surroundings.

And then there's the view.

Looking out across the Mad River Valley toward Sugarbush is one of those reminders that great homes aren't just built on the land—they're built for it.

When architecture, craftsmanship, and the Vermont landscape come together, the result is a home that feels like it has always belonged there.

A home may be finished, but the story isn’t complete until the landscape grows into it.

Thoughtful landscaping has the power to transform a finished project into a masterpiece. It softens the edges, frames the architecture, and creates a connection between the home and the land it was built on. But like any great build, it takes time.

The first season is just the beginning. Plants establish, trees settle in, and each passing month reveals a little more of the original vision. As the landscape matures, the home begins to feel less like it was placed on the property and more like it has always belonged there.

The best landscapes aren’t rushed—they’re grown. And when they finally come into their own, they become the finishing touch that brings the entire project to life.

Behind every beautiful home is a team of people who care deeply about getting it right.

Long before we hand over the keys, our team is walking every room, checking every detail, solving the little things, and making sure the home reflects exactly what our clients envisioned. It’s the work most people never see—but it’s the work that matters most.

Our carpenters, project managers, and trade partners take incredible pride in their craft because they know they’re not just building a house. They’re creating the place where birthdays will be celebrated, holidays will be shared, and everyday life will unfold.

That’s why the people behind every job are the most important part of our business. Their commitment, communication, and attention to detail are what turn a well-built house into a home our clients are proud to call their own.

Built by people who care. Crafted with pride. Handed off with confidence.

Every great build starts and ends with the people doing the work.

Not the plans. Not the materials. The people.

From the moment a delivery hits the site to the last detail on the final walkthrough — it's the team that makes the difference. Unloading lumber in the rain without complaint. Following an architect's vision so precisely that the finished product looks like the drawing came to life. Catching a detail that's two millimeters off and fixing it before anyone else noticed.

Nobody asked them to do any of that. That's just who they are.

The best builders don't do great work because someone is watching. They do it because they're proud. Because they know the difference between done and done right. Because at the end of the day, what goes into the ground has their name on it — even if it's never written anywhere.

That pride is something you can't manufacture. You either have a team that carries it or you don't.

We do. And it shows in every home we build.

This time of year hits different on a jobsite.

Up at Boulder Pass in Warren, interior and exterior details are getting buttoned up — the finish work that pulls everything together and turns a great build into a finished home. Every piece finding its place.

Over on Ski Valley in Waitsfield, landscaping is wrapping up and the grounds are coming into their own. That final layer that ties the home to the land around it and makes the whole property feel complete.

And in Rochester, our new home build is moving along nicely — fresh progress on a project that’s going to be something special when it’s done.

Three jobsites. Three different stages. The same standard on every one of them.

Summer doesn’t slow us down. It reminds us why we love this work.
