A pretty good reason to finish the attic.

This third-floor renovation in Reading gave an older home a new primary suite, including this bathroom, plus a bedroom and home office.

Making better use of the space already there can change the way a whole house works. And in this case, the attic ended up with a very respectable new title. 😌

Craftsman style, built from the ground back up.

This Wakefield whole-home gut renovation was a complete transformation, with warm oak, exposed beams, deep blue cabinetry and a herringbone floor giving the new spaces plenty of character.

Um, we are capable of winging it but no, bestie, no.😌

The fun part of a reno? The end. The less glam part? Making a whole lot of decisions before that happens.

Plans, selections, schedules, coordination, details. Getting those settled is what keeps the build moving and helps avoid bad ($$) surprises later.

So no, we’re probably not going to wing it.

There’s outside. And then there’s living outside.

A screened porch gives you a little more of the season: coffee in the morning, dinner outside, a place to land at the end of the day. Fresh air and all that green, with a roof overhead and considerably fewer mosquitoes invited to the party.

Right now, this one is still studs, rafters but we can picture fall dinners on the porch, how about you?

Today’s Massachusetts weather may have us forgetting all about heating bills, drafts and January.

Not us, though. We just can’t!

Insulation, tight envelopes, ventilation, makeup air, energy codes, town-specific inspection requirements… the stuff behind the walls matters just as much as the stuff you’ll eventually photograph.
