Throwback Thursday 📸

Long before working together at Beltway, our Administrative Director, Alexis Buffaloe, was already supervising her Uncle Paul- our residential asphalt foreman. 😎

Beltway has always been a family business, and the family ties around here run deep. ❤ Decades after this picture was taken, Alexis and Paul are carrying on that tradition in their branch of the Beltway family tree.

When most people think of strength, they think of rigidity.

But asphalt is actually designed to do the opposite.😜

Instead of resisting every bit of pressure, asphalt has a small amount of built-in flexibility.👌 That allows it to handle the weight of vehicles, changing temperatures, and the natural movement of the ground beneath it.

If pavement were completely rigid, it would be much more likely to crack as the ground expands, contracts, and settles over time. It's a little like bending your knees when you land from a jump.🕴Having a little "give" helps absorb the stress.😅

🚧Of course, there's a difference between healthy flexibility and structural failure. Excessive movement, deep ruts, or widespread cracking are signs that something beneath the surface may need attention.🚧

That's why quality pavement is designed to be both strong and flexible. 💪〰

It is with incredibly heavy hearts that we share the passing of one of our own, Everett "Slim" Young, who passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2026.

Slim wasn't just a longtime employee; he was a part of our history and family.

Over the years, Slim worked alongside generations of the Williams family, from our founder, Ervin Williams, through Mickey Williams, and into the generation of Christine and Charlie Williams. Through all those years and all those changes, Slim remained a constant. He showed up, worked hard, and left his mark on this company and the people who had the privilege of working beside him.

Slim was a luteman, and simply put, he was the best in the business. His skill was something you cannot teach, and his work ethic, knowledge, and years of experience earned him the respect of everyone around him.

But as much as we will remember Slim for the work he did, we will remember him even more for the person he was and the place he held within the Beltway family.

We are incredibly grateful for every year Slim gave to Beltway, every lesson he passed along, every road he helped pave, and every memory he leaves behind. Our history would not be the same without him.

Rest easy, Slim. ❤

Services for Everett "Slim" Young:

Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 18, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 am, with the Homegoing Service beginning at 11:00 am.

This week's Throwback Thursday features Ervin Williams, the founder of Beltway Paving, alongside his son, Mickey Williams, and longtime team members Wayne Saunders and Junior Blaine.

It's more than just a snapshot from a jobsite. It's a glimpse into the people whose hard work, leadership, and dedication built the foundation of Beltway Paving.

Ever look at your driveway and think, "It's turning gray... I guess it's time to replace it"?

NOT SO FAST. 👀

Asphalt naturally changes color over time. Sunlight, oxygen, and everyday traffic gradually weather the surface, causing it to fade from deep black to gray. 🌦 That color change is completely normal and doesn't automatically mean your pavement is worn out.

Instead of judging a book by its color- look for cracks, potholes, drainage issues, or areas that are breaking apart.🤕Those are the REAL indicators that it's time for repairs.

When you look at a driveway or parking lot, all you see is the smooth black surface. That pretty surface is the ✨alleged✨ star of the "Keepin It Smooth" show. But what's underneath is just as important (if not more so!).⭐️

Think of it like building a house... without building a strong foundation, it doesn't matter how nice the finished product looks.

A properly prepared stone base provides the support and drainage that help asphalt perform the way it's designed to. If the foundation isn't stable, the pavement above it can settle, crack, or develop potholes long before it should. ⚠️

That's why quality paving is about much more than simply laying asphalt. The work you DON'T see is often what determines how long your asphalt will last. 💪

🎖Everett "Slim" Young - A longtime luteman whose hard work helped lay the foundation for countless Beltway projects. Slim officially retired in early 2026 after an incredible career.

🎖Wayne Saunders - Still part of the Beltway family today. Wayne now serves as one of our Asphalt Superintendents, leading crews and keeping projects running smoothly.

🎖Junior Blaine - From this throwback photo to today, Junior continues to keep things rolling as one of our dump truck drivers.

Every company has a story, and ours has been written by the people who show up every day and put in the work. We're grateful for the employees who've spent years helping build Beltway Paving into what it is today—and we're excited to keep writing the next chapter together. 📖

Not nearly as much asphalt goes to waste when an old road or parking lot is torn up as you may think. Instead, it's often recycled and incorporated into new pavement - giving it a second life. ♻

In fact, asphalt is one of the most recycled materials in America. 🇺🇸Millions of tons of reclaimed asphalt are reused every year to help build new roads, parking lots, and driveways.

That's better for the environment, helps conserve natural resources, and keeps a valuable material in use instead of ending up in a landfill. ✨

Who knew yesterday's roads could help build tomorrow's? 🛣

Throwback Thursday 📸

Some lessons aren't learned in a classroom. They're learned in the seat of a roller.

Long before Charlie Williams became our Vice President of Operations, he was just a kid riding alongside his dad, Mickey, and learning from his grandfather, Ervin, who founded Beltway Paving 60 years ago.

Growing up in the family business meant early mornings, job sites, and countless hours watching some of the best in the industry do what they loved. Those experiences shaped the leader Charlie is today. Now he's the one keeping our field operations moving and making sure every crew has what they need to succeed.

Things may change over the years, but the dedication, hard work, and pride we take in every job have always been a part of who we are. Some traditions are worth passing down.

Here's to honoring where we started and the people who helped build Beltway into what it is today.
