Started the long process of cleaning the oil and soot out of some affected pools in Amite/Roseland. Some advice:
1. Don’t shock your pools with oil, grease, soot and residue in there. You won’t like the results.
2. Don’t swim until the water has been deemed safe by harmful chemical experts. (Thats what I’ll tell you.)
3. Pool pros are experts in pool chemistry, not oil spills and their harmful ingredients. We cannot test for benzene, carcinogens, etc.
4. Clean your pool decks and furniture before the pool. Double work and more money if you don’t.
5. Use tennis balls, oil absorption mats, etc. to help with the oil residue on top of the water and just below the surface.
6. Be prepared to change your sand or buy new filters when the cleanup is complete.
7. Regular chemicals will not work to clean the pool with oil, so save your money.
