My air conditioning went out a couple of weeks ago. Comfort Pros NJ came to my house at the request of American Home Shield home warranty company. The tech told me that my blower motor went bad then proceeded to show me that the burner in the furnace, the inducer motor and the blower motor were FULL of water. He said that due to the age and the damage, my system was done. He took video and photos and wrote up a report. I received two quotes, one for $9,000 and one for $7,000. They told me to call the warranty company and find what my allowance was for my old system. AHS told me that $2,900 for the furnace was not covered. I was absolutely under the impression that this was my uncovered amount. Comfort Pros made me pay that fee up front which I did. They came a week later and replaced the furnace and nothing else. They now said everything else was fine and it was just the furnace. They told me my condensation pan was fine. Needless to say, my basement floor started flooding again. I took the front off the coil and found that there was a hole about the size of a nickel under loads of crud that I could see (there were probably more I can’t see). So they put a rusted out coil on top of my $2,900 furnace that I just bought so it could leak down into this new furnace. What a frigging money grabbing scam. I am no HVAC tech but even I can see why the old system failed. DO NOT USE THESE CLOWNS unless you’re looking to get ripped off. Both Comfort Pros and American Home Shield are crap. I attached photos of the pan they said was fine and the water pooling around my new furnace. Unbelievable.

If you or your children like feeding the squirrels, here is a DIY project for you. I looked online and at Home Depot for L-shaped, double ended, lag bolts as well as corn holders. Most are small, expensive and shoddy quality. I bought these pieces available at Home Depot in the hardware aisle. Aside from these pieces you will need 2 wrenches to tighten the nut & bolt and a drill to predrill the hole in the post. They also have these eye bolts in machine thread in case you’re mounting to a chain link post, you could rig it up with brackets and pieces from the fence aisle. I mounted mine low under the shade / shelter of a tree as I also have birds of prey in this area. The dried corn cobs are also sold by the bag at Home Depot. I’ll update with customers when I see them eating. Feel free to share and enjoy.

Added some pullouts under the kitchen sink. Needed to re-plumb the drain and remove the mullion between the doors so they would fit. Then I had to create a fake mullion to fill the gap between the doors. I epoxied and screwed it to the left door. When closed, it looks like I never touched it.

*Edit: I can’t share video and photo in the same post so I put a video of the drawers opening in the comments.

It amazes me how people hack trim work. Doing a trim job in a place that’s about 30+ years old is like unraveling a ball of yarn. All of the painters, handymen, alarm installers and any other trade people who came through had their way with it. In order to tie into it, I need to repair things and I end up going down the rabbit hole. This unit is a condo, so it was first a victim of mass production which is usually fast and sloppy in order to save the builder a buck. Improper size trim was used and huge gaps were filled with TONS of caulk, which is a huge pet peeve of mine. They managed to gob caulk down the trim and still managed to miss nail heads. I ripped it all out, cleaned the caulk off the walls and installed all new from scratch. It wasn’t a big space but because there were so many corrections that needed to be done for it to look clean, it took me awhile. Enjoy!
