The forest is usually a mess long before a spark ever flies.

Drought, insects, overcrowding — they beat it up slow, so by the time fire shows up, it’s basically kicking a door that was already hanging by one hinge.

Selective thinning and fuels reduction through mastication cut that nonsense off early, giving the stand some actual backbone before the next problem shows up looking for an easy win.

Mastication helps forests survive them all.
One treatment. Many threats addressed.

Spring is officially here! Pretty sure winter clocked in for one late shift… and then called it good.

We’re already hearing about fires — even a few red flag warnings popping up, which isn’t exactly typical this early. This year could get interesting.

We’re not here to sound alarms — just a friendly nudge from your local forest nerds.

A little work now doesn’t just protect your place — it helps everyone around you, too.

Reduce those ladder fuels, clean up around the house, take care of the obvious stuff before it turns into something bigger.

And please… be smart with burning. This year might not be the one to push it.

It’s one of those “deal with it now or deal with it later” situations — and later usually comes with a lot more smoke.

Even small actions can have a big payoff in the long run.

Spring Is On Its Way — But It’s Not Your Only Work Window

As spring rolls in, our schedule fills fast with folks hoping to get projects done before fire season. But the year is far from over.

🍂 Fall and winter are excellent times for forestry work (weather permitting). Cooler temps, lower fire danger, and fewer restrictions often make those seasons ideal for thinning and fuels reduction.

🔥 And while no one can predict the weather, if next winter is anything like the mild one we just had, planning ahead now will put you in a great spot for next season.

Summer isn’t always the easiest time to work—fire restrictions, shutdowns, and fire assignments can slow everything down. Starting the conversation early gives you more options and better timing.

Could Your Forest Project Qualify for Cost‑Share?

Cost‑share programs through your local DNR can help offset the cost of thinning, fuels reduction, and other forest‑health work. We don’t handle the paperwork, but we work closely with the foresters who do.

Here’s a quick look at how it usually works:
1. Start with a call — We talk through your goals and whether cost‑share might be a good fit.
2. Choose your first step — Set up a site visit with us, or we can help connect you with the right agency forester.
3. Forester visit — They walk the property, explain eligibility, and help with the application. We can join that visit when it’s helpful so everyone’s aligned.
4. Estimate from us — Based on the forester’s recommendations and what you want for your land.
5. Project work — Completed to program standards while keeping your priorities front and center.
6. Final walkthrough & reimbursement — The forester signs off, and the agency handles payment or reimbursement directly with you.

If you’re wondering whether your property might qualify or what programs are available in your area, a quick call or message is the easiest way to get started.

We heard it’s Retro Day… so it felt like a good excuse to show a little love to some old iron.

Our 2011 PrimeTech PT300 — the “Orange Dinosaur” — came to us through an unexpected winning bid and threw us headfirst into this industry. That machine helped us build from the ground up — reducing fuels, creating defensible space, and restoring balance in the woods along the way.

And now our 1994 Timbco — over 30 years old — is getting rebuilt for its first season with us. There’s something pretty satisfying about bringing a machine like that back to life and putting it back to work.

Old machines. Good stories. Still earning their keep. 🌲

From Fuels Reduction to Reforestation — What We Do

Swipe through the before & afters. What you’re seeing is wildfire risk reduced, forest stands improved, and ground brought back into balance.

We work throughout the Pacific Northwest providing:

• Shaded fuel breaks — slowing fire spread while keeping healthy canopy intact.

• Thinning — reducing overcrowding to strengthen stand health.

• Fuels reduction — removing excess surface and ladder fuels.

• Community wildfire resilience — protecting neighborhoods and shared access routes.

• Logging slash cleanup — reducing post-harvest fire hazard.

• Reforestation & site prep — preparing ground for successful replanting.

• Disease mitigation — removing compromised trees to protect the stand.

• Row & access improvement — restoring corridors for management and emergency response.

Fire season creates urgency — but the best time to plan is before restrictions hit.

This work can — and should — happen year-round as conditions allow.

If your forested property needs attention, let’s get ahead of it.

Owning land in the PNW is something to be proud of — and protecting it matters. 🌲

Whether you’re a rural homeowner, a private landowner, or managing timber investment property, proactive forest management isn’t just about looks… it’s about safety, access, long-term value, and keeping your property insurable.

Overgrown stands, ladder fuels, and limited access can put you at risk — especially when fire season hits. And once restrictions roll in (or we’re called out to assist on wildfires), projects get delayed fast.

Spring and fall are the best times to get ahead of it.
Cost-share programs may be available.
Planning now prevents scrambling later.

We’re local. We operate the equipment ourselves. And we care about the forests we work in.

If improving your land has been on your mind, let’s talk.

Forested land can change fast. Dense brush, overgrowth, and limited access can impact safety and usability.

We work with landowners to improve forest health, reduce risk, and create safer, more accessible property. Many projects qualify for cost-share assistance — don’t miss the opportunity.

Now is the time to plan for a safer, healthier property this season. When the smoke starts flying, you’ll be glad you planned ahead.

🌲🔥🏠 Beyond Defensible Space🏠🔥🌲

Defensible space is absolutely necessary.
And defensible space means just that — creating an accessible area around a structure that can be defended during a wildfire event.

But wildfire behavior doesn’t stop at 100 feet.

Unmanaged forest surrounding that zone can still create a recipe for disaster. Dense stands, ladder fuels, and excessive surface fuels allow fire to move quickly, climb into the canopy, and become difficult — or impossible — to control.

That’s where our work comes in.

Our services extend beyond the defensible space zone to improve overall forest health. Thoughtful thinning, fuels reduction, and strategically placed fuel breaks help fire move to the ground — and stay there — while slowing its spread and giving suppression efforts a better chance to succeed.

Defensible space protects structures.
Forest health helps protect the land. Together, they give you the strongest defense possible.

Every property is unique—we’d be happy to walk yours and discuss the most effective plan.

🌲 Forest health comes first. 🌲

At B & M Land Management, our work is rooted in one simple belief:
a healthy, well-managed forest is always more fire resilient.

That kind of resilience starts with planning.

Now is the time to set up site visits and get on the schedule for this year’s projects. As fire season approaches, schedules tighten and restrictions can limit when work can happen. Planning ahead helps secure a block on the calendar and keeps projects moving forward.

Our work supports long-term forest health and property safety, including:
• Wildfire prevention & fuels reduction
• Forest health & stand improvement
• Logging cleanup
• Replanting site preparation
…and much more, depending on the land and the goals.

No burning. No debris piles. Just clean, intentional work with forest health at the center.

Cost-share programs may be available, and we’re happy to help connect landowners with agencies when applicable.

If forest work is on your radar for this year, now’s a great time to start the conversation.
