Clover lawn alternative ❤️
WAY less thirsty than traditional lawns and is staying so lush and green through the summer heat. This is a common white clover so it can be a bit taller than a traditional lawn look. Luckily, many places carry mico- clovers which are shorter- growing clovers for a look more similar standard lawn.

Planting in summer is still possible with a little more care. Things to remember:
1. Plant when its cooler. As a general rule, 80 degrees or below is safe to plant.
2. Water plants well after planting.
3. Check water needs daily. It's easy to overwater in summer when we see a plant wilting. Remember that overwater symptoms and needing water symptoms are the same. Check the dirt 2" down before watering to make sure the plant needs it.

Creating a successful planter is not always as simple as throwing annuals into a pot. Here are a few quick tips to create a successful pot.
1. Pick a color scheme - decide the colors you want to combine ahead of time to ensure the final product looks it's best
2. Plan a focal point. Just like in a garden, your pot needs a star to create order and maximum effect
3. Think about texture. Planning for interesting leaf and plant texture will keep your pot looking great even without flowers

My pot here has afternoon sun which gave me a great opportunity to lean into the beautiful texture of the plants. I love using perennials as my main plants and only adding in a few annuals for splashes of longer flowers.

The skinny borders along a walk or house are often challenging to plan and plant. The proportions of a large house next to a small planting area create an awkward space that is out of balance. Here are two easy solutions for these areas.
1) Three narrow, tall plants with smaller infill of perennials. Good options for the tall plants include, grasses, 'Skypencil' Holly, and some varieties of boxwood. Boxwood and holly will tolerate some shade while the grass will need to be full sun. Use this option for a more modern or formal garden style.
2) Add a trellis with a vine for height and infill with perennials. Bamboo can be a simple, inexpensive trellis, or opt for something fancier. Good vine options include clematis, honeysuckle, or porcelain berry for a shady area. These vines good climbers without being overly aggressive and causing siding damage. Use this option for a more informal, cottage garden look.
