August 10th marks Fifty-one years.
Let that sink in for a second.
Today we're celebrating Rodney Rouse, who started with Vanguard Roofing back in 1975 as a roofing mechanic — and basically never came down off the roof.
Think about that for a moment. has been climbing roofs and solving problems for this company since before most of our current crew was even born.
• Disco was on the radio
• Gas was 57 cents a gallon
• End of Vietnam war
• Microsoft was founded
• Jaws ruled the box office and made us afraid of the water
• SNL Premiered
•And Rodney was already up there getting the job done.
Over the years, he's worn a lot of hats — mechanic, mentor, problem-solver — and today he's one of our Project Managers and Estimators. But job titles never really tell the whole story with someone like Rodney.
These two photos we're sharing today were taken about 30 years apart. One shows a young roofer with a can-do attitude. The other shows...well...a roofer with a more gray hair, the same can-do attitude, and—thankfully—still wearing his safety harness.
Some things never change.
Ask anyone who's worked with him and you'll hear the same things: he shows up, he tells you the truth, and he does the job right — no shortcuts, no excuses.
That kind of reputation doesn't come from a job description.
It comes from 51 years of showing people who you are.
Rodney, we don't say this often enough — thank you.
Thank you for the decades of hard work, the crews you've mentored, the customers you've earned the trust of, and the standard you've set for what it means to do this job well.
Vanguard is what it is today because of people like you.
Here's to 51 years, and here's to many more. Congratulations, Rodney! 🎉
