While going through photos to update some of the work we show online, I came across this picture from a ramp project that still means a lot to me.
Where I used to live, my neighbor a retired Navy veteran. He and his wife both had a hard time getting around. One day, I saw him pulling wood off the side of his own house, trying to repair the old ramp his wife depended on to get from the house to the carport with her walker. The ramp was in bad shape, and he simply couldn’t afford to replace it.
Without telling them, I reached out to a few local businesses and, along with putting in some of my own money, we were able to get everything needed to build them a new ramp. While they were gone to a doctor’s appointment, we tore out the old one and replaced it with what you see in this photo.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone more grateful or happier than they were when they came home and saw it.
They both passed away several years ago, but I’ve never forgotten this project. Jobs like this are a reminder that sometimes the work you do is about a whole lot more than just building or repairing something. These are the kinds of projects that keep you wanting to do what you do.
