New frame for an old picture. Jim reached out for a non-standard frame size for a class picture of Claypool 1925. The old frame had broke at some point and needed a new case. Easy enough, but even more glad he brought the actual picture to see it. Super cool to see it in person, and he even pointed out his dad that was in it.

Made from solid hickory, this one should last a while.

It was an absolute honor to get to know Gary. And then see him as the Grandpa my kids know. He was living his absolute best life.

He was someone who had found true happiness in life. He was not chasing a bigger house, nicer things, and a more expensive car. He lived in the same apartment for over 25 years. He was truly happy where he was. Except his garden. The garden that he was always reducing, but somehow kept growing.

He loved to check out my shop. We'd talk about upcoming projects or finished jobs he'd seen on Facebook. But the best was him casually asking about unsold pieces that he could take to his place.

But his true pride was his daughter. That is all he needed. He loved to talk to her or come visit with her. To help landscape. Clean up my chaos. And take us out to a great dinner. We loved to see him enjoy happiness just sitting in the dark on the deck, or by the pond. He'd sit for hours - no phone in sight. Just frogs chirping, peaceful night air, and a Busch light.

And those grandbabies. They were the light of his life. Hearing the excitement when he talked to them on the phone. Sitting on the floor playing hot wheels. Endless card games. They truly completed his life.

So today, gonna try to be a little more like Grandpa. Maybe want a little less. Be proud of where we're at. Don't worry what others are doing and have. Do what makes your soul happy. Water the garden. Enjoy the present moments. And love those around you.

Rest Easy, Grandpa. We'll take the garden from here. ❤️

Bunk bed build. Assembling these bed ends and non-load bearing parts using clamex connectors and dowels. This bed will need to be assembled on site. Building it this way will make it simple to test fit it all, tear down for stain/finish, and then assemble on site. Progress.

Heirloom furniture repair. A piece had snapped off this when it was getting moved. Fortunately it was a pretty clean break. Some touchup stain, ,& tensos got it back together.

Here's a post on making a post.

Needed some 4" hard maple bed posts. Started with rough sawn 16/4. One side through the joiner. Ripped in half on the saw. Joined the 2nd edge. Ran them through the .tools x planer to clean up the other 2 sides. Perfect hard maple posts.

This countertop had seen some better days. Still not fully sure what it was made with, but it needed replaced. This fam wasn't ready for a full kitchen redo yet, so we spliced in this gorgeous wood top. Used the old counter as a template to route out the support channels underneath and it went together like a dream! 🔥 🔥 🔥

*The caulking is clear, just hadn't dried.

I love opportunities to make one of a kind pieces, especially keepsakes for friends. We picked this Maple live edge piece from the stack at the local Indiana sawmill and went to work. Cut to size, surfaced, sanded, processed images and engraved, detailed them, and finished it out.
