This week, students celebrated a major milestone: our very first official blackberry harvest!
To our students, learning how to gauge perfect ripeness by looking for that deep, matte black color instead of a shiny, tart red, was a masterclass in patience and observation.
Most students resisted the temptation to pick the berries too early, carefully observing changes in color, texture, and ripeness over time. They practiced critical thinking, made predictions, and applied what they learned through direct observation.
We enjoyed seeing students’ faces light up as they picked and tasted the fruit they helped grow from start to finish. That first bite wasn't just delicious, it was the reward for weeks of nurturing plants, solving problems, and learning through experience.
That is exactly why we build these spaces.
