𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗛𝗮𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱.

On Thursday June 11, 2026 at 8:39 AM I received a call. I was told I did not make the runoff. I was calm. Not sad. Not disappointed. It was simply a thermometer reading — a snapshot of the current state of things.

𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗜 𝘄𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱.

I am immensely proud of this work because I know what it took to do it the right way.

Behind the scenes: No one with political capital advocated on my behalf. No bloc voting. No prior alliances. My support was grassroots. Some who believed in me did not show it publicly because of what it might cost them further down the line. There were also those whose decisions were influenced by existing relationships, future opportunities, or commitments already made.

The big blocs — including New York, which alone is enough to tip the vote — were committed elsewhere through prior alliances. My chapter assignment was International | Middle East until the war forced me to relocate — too late for those alignments to form.

𝗜 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗹𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺. 𝗕𝗹𝗼𝗰 𝘃𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆. 𝗜𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗜𝗔.

I led this entire campaign on my own. Every video. Every piece of content. Every track. I created two videos specifically about voting to reach delegates. I spent more than 4 months researching, listening, learning, and trying to understand what members, leaders, and the Institute were struggling with before putting forward my vision.

The updated delegate list arrived only days before the election. Many delegates did not have the time to read the delegate booklet or listen to the 5-minute campaign speech published on AIA's YouTube channel. They are volunteers with full lives. I understand that. 𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗱.

𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘃𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗲-𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗱. 𝗡𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗜 𝗮𝗺.

I wish the incoming leadership well in tackling the very structural barriers we all say we are against.

The attached messages tell the whole story. Most were thoughtful and validating. Yet one person wrote in all capital letters telling me not to send emails. A few unsubscribed. Again — it is a thermometer reading.

Someone told me to meet people where they are. I do — in empathy and kindness. 𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗮 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲, 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗶𝘇𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹.

I am excited about the work ahead — because that is where I have full agency over what matters most. My celebration officially starts now. My West Coast and New York photoshoots are coming at the end of the month.

Many of you have told me you believe in what we have built together. 𝗜 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗼 𝗜 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴. But I cannot know this for certain.

I know I brought every ounce of effort, strategic thinking, academic rigor, experience, integrity, resilience, courage, emotional intelligence, and a lifelong commitment to mentorship and empowerment to this campaign — and the willingness to put AIA and its members ahead of my own interests.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗿𝘆 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 — 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝘆 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁. This campaign tested that. I believe I lived up to it.

I know I represent many who are underrepresented in this profession — and I care about everyone. Because while our experiences may be different, I understand what it means to struggle, to persevere, and to seek opportunity.

In 2009, as Lead Architect and Designer at EEK Architects, I led the winning design vision for 250 East 57th Street — a landmark mixed-use development on the Upper East Side that competed against some of the most prominent architectural firms in the United States.

Our vision won.

From that victory came a commission to transform a 90-year-old abandoned nurse's residence into a vibrant neighborhood elementary school — designed and built in 18 months, while New York City introduced its first green building standards and codes.

The result was PS 59, The Beekman Hill International School — New York City's first certified green public school, achieving compliance with the City Council's new sustainable design standards.

Published in Architectural Record. Recognized internationally.
In 2010, it was founded as PS 267 — the East Side Elementary School — one of the highest performing public elementary schools in New York State. In September 2025, I returned to the school. Kindergartners were drawing on the sidewalk with chalk — colorful, fearless, and free.

16 years later, the building still inspires.

The children still create.

That is why we build.
