Membership FAQ

NECA membership is only available to a “person, firm or corporation engaged in the business of ‘electrical contracting’ … defined as the business of erecting, installing, repairing, servicing or maintaining electric wiring, devices or equipment.”

The primary services of the association are for signatory contractors who hire union (IBEW) electricians. Non-union firms may be approved for membership based upon the practice of each local chapter; however, many of our chapters do not accept non-union members. NECA does not offer any specific services for non-union employing contractors, who comprise a small percentage of our membership. Learn more at www.NECAnet.org/Membership »

When the electrical contracting industry speaks, Washington listens. 🇺🇸⚡

Last month, hundreds of NECA members took their message to Capitol Hill for the 2026 NECA Legislative Conference, bringing real stories from the field, data from the jobsite, and clear priorities for the policymakers shaping our industry.

From workforce development and energy policy to regulatory reform and the future of the electrical grid, members made sure decision-makers understood what’s at stake for the people doing the work every day.

Thank you to our sponsors Graybar, Milwaukee Tool, Schneider Electric, and Southwire for supporting this effort and helping amplify the voice of the industry.
