Black Lake Buildings “WE’RE NOT JUST AT THE FAIR. WE’RE ALL OVER IT.”
If you’ve been going to the Alaska State Fair for a while, chances are you’ve already been inside a Black Lake Building and didn’t even know it.
There are More than 50 of them.
They’re being used for just about everything. Food, candy, clothing, artwork, gifts and all kinds of other Alaska businesses.
A lot of these buildings have been there for years. Some have changed owners more than once. Some have changed businesses, been repainted, remodeled or had things and even other buildings added to them. They may not look exactly like they did when they left our place, but underneath it all, they started as a Black Lake Building.
And something else we thought was pretty neat this year, several of the vendors operating out of Black Lake Buildings took home awards at the Fair. That credit belongs to the businesses that put the time and work into making those spaces their own, but we’re sure proud that a Black Lake Building gets to be the foundation for what they’ve created.
That’s really what these buildings are supposed to be.
A building should be built to last, but it should also be built so the person who owns it can make it theirs. Seeing these buildings still being used year after year, some of them taking on completely different lives along the way, is something we’re pretty proud of.
So we made a Black Lake Building Trail Directory for this year’s Fair.
Save the map, walk around and see how many you recognize. You might be surprised how quickly you start seeing Black Lake Buildings everywhere.
If you’re at the Alaska State Fair this Thursday - Monday, come see us at S33/34 and pick up a map! We’d be glad to visit with you, show you what we’re building now, and help you figure out what we could build for you.
And if you spot one of the buildings on the list, take a picture and tag us. We’d like to see them too.
Built to last. Built to be used. Built by Black Lake.”
