🇺🇸 DID YOU KNOW? 🏔️

Yesterday was Alaska Day!

Alaska Day celebrates the day Alaska officially transferred from Russia to the United States in 1867.

The ceremony took place in Sitka, where the Russian flag was lowered and the American flag was raised - marking a major moment in Alaska’s history.

And here’s a fun one: the United States purchased Alaska for $7.2 million - roughly 2 cents per acre! Not a bad investment if you ask us. 😎

Happy Alaska Day from the Primary Electric crew! ⚡🏔️

⚡ DID YOU KNOW? ⚡

Circuit breakers don’t necessarily last forever.

Every time a breaker trips, internal components have to react to interrupt the electrical current. Over time, age, wear, heat, and repeated trips can affect how a breaker performs.

That doesn’t mean you need to replace a breaker just because it has tripped, but an older breaker that frequently trips or won’t reset may be telling you something.

Your electrical panel works behind the scenes every day, even when you never think about it. ⚡

⚡ DID YOU KNOW? ⚡

Some electronics are still using electricity even when you aren’t using them!

TVs, gaming systems, chargers, and other electronics can continue drawing small amounts of power while sitting idle or in standby mode. 🔌⚡ It’s called “standby power.”

Unplugging devices you rarely use, or using a switchable power strip for multiple electronics, can help cut down on that wasted electricity.

One device might not make much difference, but think about how many things stay plugged in around your house!

⚡ DID YOU KNOW? ⚡

Ever notice your LED lights flicker when the furnace, refrigerator, or another large appliance kicks on?

Larger electrical loads can cause a brief change in voltage, and LEDs can be sensitive enough to make that change visible. 💡⚡

Remember when we talked about how much heat those old-school light bulbs gave off? That hot filament didn’t cool down instantly, so it could keep glowing through those quick changes in voltage - making the flicker much harder to notice.

LEDs are more efficient, but their electronics can make those changes easier to see. A quick flicker can be normal - but frequent or widespread flickering may be worth having checked out.

⚡ DID YOU KNOW? ⚡

Ever wonder why LED light bulbs stay so much cooler than old-school incandescent bulbs?

Incandescent bulbs turn most of the electricity they use into heat rather than visible light. LEDs are much more efficient at turning that electricity into light, which means less wasted energy and less heat. 💡

That’s why an LED bulb can produce similar light while using a fraction of the electricity.

Small bulb. Big difference. ⚡

⚡ WEEKEND POWER CHECK ⚡

Generators are kind of like insurance - you hope you don’t need one BUT you’re really happy it’s there when the power goes out.

Lights on. Heat running. Fridge cold. Just vibes.

Because Alaska weather is gonna do what Alaska weather does!⚡🏠

⚡ DID YOU KNOW? ⚡

Does your phone charger or appliance plug practically fall out of the outlet?

That’s more than just annoying! A worn-out outlet may not grip the plug tightly enough, creating a poor electrical connection that can generate heat or even cause arcing.

That heat can damage the outlet and plug, while electrical arcing can create enough heat to become a fire hazard. 🔥⚡

If your outlets aren’t holding plugs securely anymore, it might be time to replace them.

Today, we pause to remember September 11, 2001 - a day that changed our way of life and our country forever.

Thousands of first responders, military members, and ordinary Americans stepped forward to help others. Lives were lost, families were changed forever, and countless people answered the call to serve in the days and years that followed.

Today, let’s be thankful for our families, our first responders, our military, and the people we hold close.

Yesterday can’t be forgotten.
Today is only temporary.
Tomorrow is never promised.

Never forget. 🇺🇸
