Work in progress! Low basement ceiling “covered” in pipes and ductwork? Rather than add the cost of framing soffits and adding blocking or relocating low pipes, paint it black for an industrial aesthetic. Black rolling barn doors, polished concrete floor, subtle wall color. Black cabinets. And - a cozy w**e room. Stay tuned for the final look.

We were surprised to see the basement slab in this Whitefish Bay home was not only failing but only 1-2” thick! Time for it to come out - back breaking work by our masons - and pour a new one before they invest in their new finished basement space.

This Whitefish Bay home had a failing basement slab with a thickness between 1-2” thick. Topcoating or adding thickness is not an option with a low ceiling height and that top coat of portland cement could crack. So, it’s coming out - in very small pieces! It definitely needs a nice new fresh concrete slab, to be polished, to match the new industrial look finished space.
