Yesterday’s ribbon cutting at the new Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority - MBTA Foxboro Station marked a major milestone for the region—and an important step as Massachusetts prepares to welcome visitors for the World Cup in a few days.

Building on years of planning and coordination that began with the original commuter rail pilot service, the new station enhances regional mobility, expands access, and strengthens the transportation network for residents and visitors alike.

This achievement reflects the power of collaboration among public agencies, private partners, and dedicated project teams working toward a shared goal. Together, the team delivered what has been recognized as one of the quickest-build station projects in MBTA history.

VHB is proud to have partnered with the MBTA, MassDOT, TKG, the Town of Foxborough, and a talented team of project partners to help bring this vision to life.

The Urban Land Institute’s Southeastern Coastal Development Forum helped advance conversations on how communities can better plan for long‑term resilience.

Here are the team’s key takeaways:

→ Integrating national datasets with local community input improves modeling accuracy and strengthens plans.

→ Advanced modeling translates data to identify specific impacts to critical assets and opportunity to protect them, helping to guide capital investments.

→ Resiliency planning is now integrated into public and private developments early on.

Explore how these ideas come together in Katie Shannon’s whitepaper, Building Resilience: Sustainable Strategies for Florida’s Coastal Communities: https://bit.ly/4veRkIc.
