If you're cold, your husbands are cold. Keep them inside, too.

It's about to get really cold again, you guys. Here are some helpful ways that you can prevent disaster from striking:

1) insulate any and all exposed water piping that you can see

2) Turn your heat up and open the cabinets under your sinks. This will help introduce some of that warm air and help keep those pipes as warm as they can be.

3) Keep all the doors open in your house if possible. That will just help more hot air circulate through your house.

4) Let your faucet drip. Now, we're not talking about a running stream but a drip will do. Ice expands and with that pressure it'll have nowhere to go and that's how your pipes burst. But if you introduce some running water, even as small as a trickle then that will relieve that pressure in your piping system.

5) Disconnect all water hoses and cover the faucet with a styrofoam faucet protector you see at Lowe's or Home Depot. And if you don't have those you can wrap them up in a sock, tshirts, or something like that. We all know that men are about to get all new socks in a few days anyway!

6) Understand where your main water shut off is in your yard. So if your pipes do freeze then you will know how to turn the water off to the house to minimize that damage. And if you plan on going out of town, turn that water off and drain down your system, including your sprinkler system. Now make sure to turn the power supply off to the water heater if it is electric, or put it in vacation mode if it is a gas water heater. The water can't freeze if there's no water in the pipes.

7) If you find that one in your pipes have frozen, you can attempt to unthought yourself with a low heat source, such as a hair dryer. If you are not comfortable with that, then call Talbot plumbing and we can take care of you.

These are just a few of the tips you can use to avoid disaster in the coming days. But if you do find yourself with a burst pipe, call Talbot Plumbing and we can get you back up and running. 214-949-0417 or 214-463-5684

Prepare yourselves for these frigid temperatures. Disconnect water hoses, wrap them up, and leave a faucet or faucets dripping to prevent freeze breaks. Dealing with this cold is bad enough, don't wake up to a plumbing nightmare!

I'm out! Now I get to replace all 65-75' in the rain this weekend. Thanks mother nature.
