FlashbackFriday! ."8 Rules We're Told As Kids... And Still Have to Discover for Ourselves"

Found myself thinking about the teaching I was given from others - and how it's taken me a lifetime to discover my own reasons why it was advice I now feel in my heart…

Number One
SHARE

As a child it just seemed to be a demand designed to take care of everyone else’s needs – except mine. Now I see the joy of sharing – and how it provides a moment of oneness with another. But I do make sure to take care of my needs so my generosity comes honestly from the heart and is freely given.

Number Two
BE NICE

Why would I want to be nice when I didn’t feel that way? Obviously, I wasn't being nice or I wouldn't have been TOLD to do so? As we grow, we realize that we can be nice – or kind – because we actually care about how the other person is feeling. And still be “straight” about what we’re not feeling great about. >>>More freedom and a safer space to develop relationship results.

Number Three
ASK FOR HELP

We often can’t see that asking for help is one way that we open the door for others to contribute to us. We’re so busy trying to prove to ourselves that we don’t need anyone or maintain a sense of “good enough” by going it alone. Our perception of “dependence” is something we often hold as weakening and fight hard to avoid.

Number Four
TAKE RISK

This one gets really distorted by our parents’ perception of RISK, how much risk we experience living within our own homes while relating with our families and how we’re influenced to take chances. It is so clear now, that without RISK, we can't discover all that life offers us. Without it, we continue to repeat the same lessons over and over and over... and over...

Number Five
LEAD

How often did we hear some adult prompting us to take the lead on some project or endeavor? Leadership was like, “the only way to succeed” in life. Now, it’s clear that leadership must come from the heart if it is to have integrity in its ex*****on. And, it definitely plays an all-important role in the challenging process of constructing a life that we really want to live. (con't below)
