This customer wanted to screen in the lower deck area. So we came in and installed a paver pathway to connect to their pool, a retaining wall to open up the future entrance and some flagstone steppers to connect.

Fungus is here! We've been receiving many calls to diagnose turf issues this past week. Ascochyta Leaf Blight is showing up everywhere, here's what you need to know.

1. Your turf isn't dead, the roots are still alive however the leaf will die off.

2. Whenever you see sudden affects to turf grass, it's usually fungus.

3. The fungus appears in areas that are recently stressed. For example, a shady damp area will show fungus when it gets sudden hot temperatures. Tire tracks will stress the turf and reveal fungus.

4. Your grass will bounce back in 2-3 weeks. We can treat for fungus but it rarely helps the process.

5. The best ways to avoid this are mowing your grass longer, not mowing during hot afternoons, not watering during the heat of the day and also reducing nitrogen in fertilizer.

Looks like we’ll have a pretty wild week ahead. If we get over 21.1” it’ll be the second biggest snowfall we’ve had. As of right now— it’s looking fairly likely.

We’ve brought in extra personnel and we are hoping to keep up with this storm. We will be running day and night shifts to ensure we’re able to service customers and allow our operators rest.

If it’s possible for you to stay home, I’d highly recommend it. WIth the wind mixed with snow totals, we will limit crews if driving conditions are unsafe for us.

Let’s get through this in a safe, vigilant manner.

A little PSA from us to you: Salt.

It’s been a very busy winter for all of us. While it’s difficult to work extreme hours, service customers safely and keep equipment running— this is something we love to do and we appreciate all of the compliments that we continue to get. And, we
also apologize for when we are running a little behind.

Salt. Some of us contractors in the metro area have been contacted to inquire how private companies can be more responsible with salt applications. In 2017 Minnesota rolled out a Smart Salting Certification program which I quickly enrolled in.

The responsibility of being mindful with salt applications is something we take seriously. As a contractor; we use the best equipment available to remove as much snow as possible to then use as little salt as possible.

However, we are always on the line of liability with people getting in accidents or slipping. We also use a fraction of the amount of salt products compared to public services. While we all hope for an alternative product, please keep in mind that most of us small businesses are careful with everything we do. Thankfully Midwest Turf & Landscape has never had an issue.

If this is something you care about— we need to either change our tolerance for icy conditions or not place the liability on the business owner.

Some photos of a project we did on medicine lake. This customer contacted a few landscaping companies that were unwilling to help do to the limited access to their backyard. The customer chose the planting arrangement and a cedar hand rail was completed that’s not shown in the photos. We are real happy with how this project turned out!
