Out with the old. This week the crew is removing a failing timber retaining wall in the west metro and replacing it with an interlocking block wall built to hold this hillside for decades. Timber walls from the 80s and 90s are reaching the end of their life all over the Lake Minnetonka area. If yours is leaning, bulging, or rotting at the base, it is telling you something.

Five years. Or thirty.

That is the difference between a patio built right and one built fast. And it is decided before the first stone is ever set.

What you see is the surface. What determines whether it holds is underneath: the base depth, the compaction, the grading, the drainage that carries water away from the structure instead of under it.
