What in this photo I took in 2006 was noted by the surveyor in 1884? This is about five miles west of Weatherford.

Thank you to all who participated. We are planning on doing more of these contests. Some will be on local geography, maybe even some on tree species.

This mound of rocks was built by Albert Gallatin Walker (1807-1882) on July 8, 1854. Walker was at the time Deputy Surveyor of Robertson County. What is now Parker County was not established until December 1855. Walker was an interesting character and a well-known figure in the early history of Dallas Fort Worth. Are you ready for our first contest? Reply to this post with your guess as to what year a surveyor built the rock mound in the photo. (Hint, it was not built by me!). This pile of rocks is near the Peaster store in Parker County. The person who guesses the closest to the year will get a $ 40 gift card to Chick-fil-A. This contest will end at noon Tuesday.
