Today, a full week after the OKC metro hailstorm for the ages, I decided to do an experiment. I drove through just a portion of one of the neighborhoods most affected. Of course, signs everywhere, with many featuring ORCA members (proud dad moment). On the other hand…of the small fraction of side streets I drove through, I came across nearly A DOZEN companies that either 1) aren’t even registered with with the Construction Industries Board, or 2) have CIB registrations that are Not In Good Standing or Suspended. Many out of state fly-by-nighters as well. I stopped and spoke with homeowners, a number of them who are elderly, and had no idea what they were potentially setting themselves up for. A nightmare, and common theme!

Now, what are we going to do to protect the contractors who are doing it the right way? What are we going to do to protect consumers? What are we going to do to deter the shady actors from even considering operating within Oklahoma borders? It’s time to fix this and ORCA will lead the way, even if other entities will not. If you’re a reputable and upstanding contractor and you’re not a member of our association yet, why? Let’s change that and pool our resources to fight this madness!
