❄️ Cold Weather Tips for Your Aerobic Septic System ❄️

The biggest concern with an aerobic system during freezing weather is frozen sprinklers, which can crack lines, damage the pump, or stop the system from working properly. With freezing temperatures coming, here are a few important steps you can take to help protect your aerobic septic system:

1. Go to your panel during the warmest part of the day.
During daylight hours when temperatures are above freezing, head to your septic control panel (usually on the side of your house).

2. Run your sprinklers to empty the pump tank.
Inside the panel, you should see two toggle switches.
Find the one labeled RUN and hold it down.
After about 10–15 seconds, your sprinklers should come on.
Let them run until they completely stop spraying. This helps empty the pump tank and reduce the risk of freezing.

3. Shut the system down overnight.
Once the sprinklers stop, open the panel and turn ALL 3 breakers OFF.
This will shut off power to the system.
Leave them off overnight and turn them back on the next day.
Repeat this process if freezing temperatures continue.

Extra Tip:
Try to limit water usage during freezing weather to keep excess water from entering the system.

If you have any questions or need help, please don’t hesitate to call H&S Septic Services—we’re happy to walk you through the process!

The #1 cause of septic failure isn’t age — it’s lack of maintenance.

According to the EPA, septic systems fail when tanks aren’t pumped regularly, allowing solids to clog the drain field and cause costly damage.

Routine pumping helps prevent backups, protects the drain field, and extends the life of your system.

Our Maintenance Contracts make it easy — scheduled service, routine inspections, and peace of mind knowing your septic system is taken care of.

📞 Contact H&S Septic Services today to get on a maintenance plan and avoid expensive repairs later.
