Wetlands grass plugs (Spartina alterniflora and Spartina patens) can take up to 3 years to reach full maturity, developing extensive root systems and spreading to cover the shoreline. The heat this Summer has been no joke, and paired with the drought conditions, plants are definitely struggling.

Here are some tips to help your landscaping plants stay happy in these hot and dry conditions: ☀

🌅 Water in the evenings or early morning. Avoid watering mid day, as most of that becomes lost as evaporation
💦 Water plants deeply, giving them about 1-2 inches of water to saturate the soil. Soaker hoses are a great option for this!
🌳 Keep a 2-3'' layer of mulch around plants to lock in moisture and keep soil temperatures down
🍂 Avoid installing new plants until Fall, if possible
🪾Avoid pruning, as it adds additional stress to the plant
🌱 Give extra attention to newly installed plants, as they are more succeptible to heat stress than mature and established plants
