Establish an innovative, practical homestead design based on permaculture principles. Emphasize diversity and innovativeness of techniques. We are looking for our 1.7 acres to look, feel, yield some ecologically essential rightness that contributes to the complete physical, spiritual, economic health of our fa
mily, community and planet. We wish to challenge ourselves intellectually and to be life long learners of the ecological dynamics of our homestead and valley. Design Objectives (not in any order of priority):
Accommodate a flood of the June 27, 1998 magnitude with minimal ecological and physical damage. Mitigate the wind issues to improve biological potential of the property, increase comfort and decrease heat loss. Consider incorporation of: rainwater harvest, greywater management, forest garden, fruit tree guilds, chickens/other small animals, bees, wind/water/solar power, sun traps, stone walls, agro forestry techniques, architectural modifications, etc. Grow much of our own food, including vegetables, greens, chickens, fruits, caloric (root) crops, nuts, herbs, maybe grains. Create marketable, saleable yield(s) and other products with barter potential. Incorporate craftsmanship, creativity, aesthetics to promote interest, acceptance by others and satisfaction to us. Respond appropriately to adjacent cultural sensitivities.
