The Pacific Northwest generates large amounts of woody material that could be used as a feedstock for sustainable aviation fuel, with potential wildfire risk reduction benefits. But moving that material from forest to fuel production is not straightforward.

This Perspectives piece examines the feasibility of using forest residues as feedstock, drawing on conversations CSANR and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory hosted with landowners, foresters, tribal members, and agency staff.

WFFA is proud to announce the 2026 offering of the Steven D. Stinson Leadership in Natural Resources Scholarship. This is the eleventh annual scholarship offering, made available to WFFA members, families and affiliates. The scholarship is a maximum of $10,000 split between college students majoring in natural resources and Ag-Forestry Leadership Program applicants. The 2026 scholarship announcement and details are available at WFFA’s website.
