Not the right season to be pruning oaks (oak wilt), but definitely necessary here. The 16” limb apparently split in the winter and recently got worse and was sitting on the roof of the house. I used pruning seal after the final cut to prevent the picnic beetle from being attracted to the scent of the freshly cut oak. This tree was 35” in diameter and tend to grow at .18” per year once they’re saw log size. So the tree is roughly 200-225 years old.

Today’s big, sappy, cytosphera covered spruce. Tight quarters with a lean towards the house.

Big sugar maple removal today for another company down near Racine. Then I had the pleasure of pruning another tree and ran into these little ones. Mom scurried away and thought she was pretty good at hiding. I think otherwise.

Some contract work for a company in Sheboygan. Four declining blue spruce and a spar of one that broke in a windstorm and fell on the house. I relocated the baby robins to a neighbor’s crabapple (after asking them of course) and the mama found them within 10 minutes.

Contract climbing job in Sheboygan today. The only things below to worry about were the house, the power lines, the fence, the deck, the hot tub, and the people I was working with. It was one of those where I wish I didn’t have to remove it because it was perfectly healthy, but I couldn’t talk the customer out of it because he wasn’t my customer and he didn’t speak English (he was Hmong)…. And neither did my coworkers (they were Spanish).

Some last minute apple pruning work at Nourish Farms. It’s a serious honor to get to work on trees this old. I believe Ryan Laswell said they’re around 100 years old. Other then removing suckers and raising them above mower height, these mostly just needed some deadwooding.

The 38” diameter was declining box elder for Lone Duck Farm that’s been on my list for four months is finally done. Honestly, I’ve been dreading this tree. Declining limbs over the barn, near the hoop houses, and over the gas generator had me nervous, but everything went how it should have and I was home by 2pm today… now off to the cheel for the first time.
