A backyard should grow with your family. ⛳🐶

What was once an old playground area is now a completely reimagined outdoor space designed for how this family enjoys their yard today.

We transformed the area into a custom putting and chipping green, while also creating a new fenced-in space for the family dog. The result is a cleaner, more functional backyard that gives everyone a place to enjoy.

Today we want to recognize and thank one of our longtime team members, Jeffrey, who has been part of the K. Macken Landscaping family for the past six years.

Jeffrey has officially finished his season with us and is now beginning a new chapter as he joins the National Guard.

We are extremely grateful for all of Jeffrey’s hard work, dedication, and the many years he has spent as part of our team. More importantly, we are proud of him for making the commitment to serve our country.

A great landscape should look just as good years after installation as it did on day one.

We stopped back to inspect one of our previous projects, and the property has really grown into the design. This project included a bluestone front walkway, front foundation plantings, low-voltage landscape lighting, a new privacy fence, and a backyard planting featuring a strong mix of native and pollinator-friendly plants.

The backyard beds are filling in beautifully with layers of color, texture, and seasonal interest, while the bluestone walkway and front plantings create a clean, welcoming entrance that complements the home.

Seeing a completed project mature over time is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do. Proper planning, plant selection, installation, and continued care all make a difference in how a landscape performs long after the job is complete.

There is something special about a landscape that is designed to mature beautifully.

We installed this property a little over a year ago, and the garden is now beginning to show the depth, texture, and layered character we envisioned from the start.

Mature ornamental grasses create softness and movement throughout the beds. Allium is flowering now, adding architectural color, while carefully placed annuals bring a refined seasonal accent. Earlier in the season, the astilbe provided another layer of texture and bloom.

The goal was not simply to install plants. It was to create a landscape that would evolve throughout the seasons, complement the architecture of the home, and become more impressive as it matured.

This is what thoughtful landscape design looks like when it begins to settle in.

The AFTER photo is the best part - because this is what a landscape should look like after it has had time to establish.

Following construction, we transformed this front yard with foundation plantings, a small landscape wall for defined edging, lawn seeding, and a fertilization program designed to help the new turf establish and fill in.

Today, the lawn is lush, the planting bed is full and balanced, and the entire front of the property has a polished, finished look.

Installation is only the beginning. Proper follow-up and continued care are what turn a new landscape into a great-looking property.

A new landscape installation paired with a custom low-voltage lighting system completely transformed the front of this home. We designed the new planting beds to complement the architecture and then incorporated lighting throughout the landscape to bring everything to life after dark.

Strategically placed lighting highlights the new plantings, specimen trees, stonework, architectural features, front entrance, and walkway while adding warmth, depth, and improved nighttime visibility.

The goal was a clean, finished landscape during the day and an entirely different experience at night - without over-lighting the property.

A Complete Front Yard Transformation 🌿

Another landscape installation completed by K. Macken Landscaping, LLC.

This project brought together several elements to give the property a fresh, finished look. We installed a new landscape design featuring flowering perennials, ornamental grasses, evergreens, and specimen plantings to provide a great mix of color, texture, and year-round interest.

We also installed a new Cambridge Pavers walkway in Bluestone Blend, creating a beautiful new approach to the front entrance and tying the landscape into the updated home.

To finish everything off, we installed a custom low-voltage landscape lighting system designed to highlight the plantings, walkway, and architectural features of the property after dark.

And a big shoutout to leddy_home_improvements for the beautiful front porch addition. The porch, hardscape, landscaping, and lighting all came together to completely transform the front of this home.

A beautiful container planting doesn’t stay this way by accident.

These planters are thriving because they receive the care they need - especially consistent watering. During the heat of summer, decorative flower pots can dry out much faster than landscape beds, often requiring water every day, and sometimes twice a day during extreme heat.

A few simple tips:

* Water thoroughly until water drains from the bottom of the container.
* Check the soil daily - don’t rely on the surface alone.
* Remove spent blooms to encourage continuous flowering.
* Fertilize regularly to keep plants healthy and blooming.
* Watch for signs of stress before plants begin to wilt.

When properly cared for, seasonal containers become the focal point of your home’s entrance, adding vibrant color and curb appeal all season long.
