If you ask Jonathan Scholl what the keys are to achieving excellence in a building project, he will tell you: both design and craftsmanship. “If one wants an exceptional outcome, both are equally important. Excellent design will be compromised by poor craftsmanship and poor design cannot be hidden by excellent craftsmanship. Therefore, it is critical to work with those who appreciate and perform b
oth functions well if excellence is to be achieved.”
Jonathan has a passion for both design and craftsmanship built upon his upbringing and his training. While being a lifelong resident of Chester County, he has lived in several historic homes…from a 1768 stone farm house to an 1850’s row house and now a new home within the walls of a 1906 barn. After earning a degree in mechanical engineering, Jonathan worked in the precision metal fabrication industry. After 6 years, he decided to pursue his passion for fine woodworking and accepted an apprenticeship with a custom woodworking shop near Munich, Germany. He trained for 3 years and then returned to the US, where he worked for an additional 10 years as Senior Project Manager for a renowned custom millwork shop, coordinating projects for prestigious clients such as the Smithsonian Institute, the US Naval Academy, the Wilmington Opera House and various high-end residential estate projects. In 2005, Jonathan decided it was time to combine his professional and lifelong experiences to create Dovetail Group LLC, a design/build company that embodies his passion for combining design and craftsmanship to achieve excellence for his clients.
