⚡ DO YOU HAVE AN OLD ZINSCO OR SYLVANIA ELECTRICAL PANEL? ⚡

Some electrical panels deserve a closer look because of more than just their age.

This is an older GTE Sylvania / Zinsco electrical panel, equipment that can still be found in homes throughout Chester County, PA.

Zinsco-style panels have a history of problems involving the connection between the circuit breakers and the panel's bus bars. Over time, these connections can deteriorate or overheat, and in some cases a breaker may not provide the protection you expect during an electrical fault or overload.

That's why finding one of these panels during an electrical inspection gets our attention.

Things we look for include:

- Signs of overheating or arcing
- Damaged or deteriorated bus bars
- Breakers that are loose or aren't making proper contact
- Corrosion or previous modifications
- Improper breaker installations
- Condition of the service, grounding and bonding

⚡ A BREAKER CAN LOOK FINE FROM THE FRONT ⚡

This is why electrical troubleshooting goes beyond simply looking at the front of a breaker.

In this panel, heat damage was found on the side of the breaker where it wouldn't normally be visible with everything installed.

Damage like this can be associated with:

- Poor contact between the breaker and bus
- Loose or deteriorated connections

The important part is determining WHY the overheating occurred before simply replacing the breaker.

⚡ YOUR 200 AMP METER SHOULDN'T BE PULLING OFF THE HOUSE ⚡

This is something homeowners may not notice until the damage becomes obvious.

This 200 amp meter channel is pulling away from the house and taking the siding with it.

Electrical service equipment is heavy and needs to be properly secured to a solid structural mounting surface. The siding itself should not be relied upon to support the weight of the equipment.
