This Labor Day, we recognize the people behind the work.

The laborers, operators, drivers, mechanics, foremen, project teams, and support staff who show up every day and keep Atlas moving.

The infrastructure we build lasts for generations and it starts with the people willing to put in the work today.

Thank you to everyone across Atlas for the skill, teamwork, and pride you bring to the job.

Enjoy a well-earned Labor Day.

Kyu — Purdue Faculty Extern

Building What’s Next | Assistant Professor Kyu Kang

This summer, the learning wasn’t limited to students.

Assistant Professor Kyu Kang joined Atlas as a faculty extern, spending time in the field to gain firsthand exposure to the work, people, and decision-making behind heavy civil construction.

One standout experience was observing a bore pit being drilled — an operation he had never had the opportunity to see performed in person. His time with Atlas also took him to projects in Kokomo, Crown Point, and Fairmount, giving him exposure to different types of work and jobsite conditions.

Beyond the construction itself, Professor Kang was able to observe how foremen lead their crews and how changes in crew makeup can affect team dynamics and day-to-day operations.

Experiences like this help connect what is taught in the classroom with what is happening in the field today — helping prepare the next generation of construction professionals.

Max — Senior Intern

Building What’s Next | Max Mullis

Max Mullis has spent the past three summers with Atlas, and his experience is a great example of what long-term growth can look like through an internship.

Over that time, Max has had the opportunity to see multiple sides of the business. Earlier on, that included learning the role and responsibilities of a Field Engineer. More recently, he has spent time with our Estimating team, where he has focused on improving his plan-reading skills, performing takeoffs, and getting involved in the pre-bid process.

That progression has given Max a broader understanding of how work moves from plans and pricing into ex*****on in the field.

When asked why he keeps coming back, Max points to the relationships he has built each year and the flexibility Atlas has given him to keep learning in different roles.

Internships are about more than one summer of experience. They are about building knowledge over time, creating meaningful connections, and giving people the opportunity to grow.
