Story time,
Feel free to share this to your page or the Marion and West Memphis Facebook group. We are always grateful for every bit of support - either big or small.
Friday, Porter (my apprentice) and I went on a call about (2) receptacles on a wall not working.
We tore the house apart (God bless the sweet family for dealing with us). We took every receptacle out, every light and switch and smoke alarm apart, panel, in and out of attic, you name it. We could not find continuity anywhere to these two receptacles.
The family living here swore they use to work.
I started tearing a wall open, thinking in the back of my mind I was making a mistake I could not turn back from, but we were correct.
We found someone spliced a line feeding the two receptacles with door bell wire and a random piece of wire. 100% illegal as far as the national electrical code goes.
The gauge of the wire is not strong enough to support the load carried on it and it failed inside the wall. Much longer, and you can see a fire would have happened and the breaker would not have tripped.
Smoke detector batteries need swapped out frequently and smoke detectors need replaced. They do not last forever. Look up the manufacture recommendations.
Long story short, just because something works does not mean it is right.
Be careful who you are choosing when tampering with the bones of your home or property.
Use someone reputable and trustworthy.
The lowest price isnβt always the lowest true cost.
Licensed, bonded, insured, workers compensation, school trained electrician with a license in their pocket, etc. I could ramble forever.
Thought this story deserved posted. The intrinsic good of this trade is very rewarding assuring families can rest easy at night.
Kindest of regards as always,
Kyle
