It’s officially Sea Turtle Nesting Season! 🐢

- Lighting ordinances require lights visible on the beach be turned off or not visible from the beach from March 1 - October 31.

- If you dig holes in the sand, fill them in before you leave the beach. Mother turtles and the hatchlings can fall in the holes and be unable to get out of them.

Don’t miss these limited Guided Night Hikes being offered by St. Lucie County’s Environmental Resources staff. Designed for ages 12 and older, these hikes will fill up fast, so RSVP soon at www.slchikes.org.

• Friday, March 3 from 7 to 9 p.m. & Saturday, March 4 from 7 to 9 p.m. - Firefly Bioluminescence Hike. Fireflies have enchanted humans since the beginning of time, and this is the season to enjoy their flashes of light in the twilight hours of the early evening. Experience nature’s own twinkling lights in the air and on the ground. The habitat at each program site offers a new experience.

• Sunday, March 5 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. - An Oxbow Evening at the Oxbow Eco-Center. Enjoy an evening walk through Pine Flatwoods to the banks of the St Lucie River. Navigate along the trails as your eyes adjust to the dark and learn about the Oxbow Preserve and the nocturnal animals that call this special place home.
