And another road closure……🙂

🚧 WINFIELD AVENUE PROJECT UPDATE 🚧

The City of Mount Pleasant would like to notify residents that Stage One of the Winfield Avenue street improvement project is expected to begin as early as Monday, June 1, weather permitting.
Traffic control devices are scheduled to be placed beginning Friday, May 29.

During Stage One:
• Winfield Avenue will be CLOSED from Broadway Street to Main Street on the west end of the project area
• Initial work will include roadway removal and stormwater intake improvements
• Work is also expected to begin on the Grand Avenue trail segment between Baker Street and Winfield Avenue
Residents and motorists should expect increased construction traffic, temporary traffic changes, noise, dust, and delays in the area.

📬 MAILBOX INFORMATION:
Iowa Plains Signing is also expected to begin relocating mailboxes to temporary alternate locations designated by the United States Post Office, potentially beginning Friday, May 29.
Existing mailboxes may either be temporarily relocated or temporarily removed and stored until construction is complete. Mail delivery will begin at the designated temporary locations once current mailboxes are removed.
Please use caution near work zones and follow all posted traffic control signage.

Residents with project-related questions or concerns are encouraged to contact the City of Mount Pleasant directly at 319-385-1470 so staff can coordinate with the project engineer and contractor as needed.

FUN FACT FRIDAY: Expansion Joints

Some expansion joints are filled with flexible materials like foam, rubber, or asphalt. These fillers can compress and expand as the concrete moves, almost like a shock absorber. In places with big temperature swings, those materials can compress by several millimeters or more over a season, quietly preventing slabs from pushing against each other and “tenting” upward (when concrete buckles and lifts). They also create a nice divide between panels to prevent cracks from carrying over from joints cut on other panels

🚧 ATTENTION Burlington Commuters!🚧

***This will now begin Wednesday, March 25***

Beginning Monday, March 23, Summer Street will be closed to through traffic from approximately 100 feet south of Koestner Street to 300 feet south of Parkway Drive as part of the Summer Street Reconstruction Project. The closure is necessary to allow crews to install storm sewer, water main, and roadway improvements in this section of the project. Madison Avenue will serve as the primary detour during the closure. Local access will be maintained where possible.
