WEEK 1 — Curly Maple | Warm Brown Stain

If you've never seen curly maple in person, this photo doesn't fully do it justice — and that's saying something, because it photographs beautifully. 🪵

Curly maple gets its name from the wave-like figuring that ripples across the grain — caused by irregular growth patterns in the tree that create a three-dimensional chatoyance (that almost silk-like shimmer) when light hits the surface.

Pair that natural figure with a warm brown stain and you get something that's golden, rich, and full of movement — every door front completely one of a kind because no two pieces of curly maple figure the same way.

We handcraft custom 1920s kitchen cabinets by hand in our Ohio workshop — solid wood, hand fitted inset doors, antique hardware — built specifically for your home and shipped anywhere in the country.

Built the Way They Used To Be

A 1920s kitchen wasn't designed by a showroom. It was built by hand, by someone who knew the family who'd use it — the doors, the hardware, even the counter height chosen for real life, not a catalogue.

The kitchen in these photos was built for a home addition in Michigan — solid poplar, off white paint, antique hardware, and a scalloped range hood built from scratch to match the room. Nothing about it came from a catalogue either.
