Part 3 — Chiller Install & Commissioning - The Pay Off 🔧❄️

Everybody wants to see the finished product. Nobody wants to see what it took to get there. We’re showing you both.

This one didn’t come easy — every chiller has its own personality when it comes to startup. We’re talking full teardown-to-build: cutting schedule 80 pipe, fresh grooved couplings on the inlet/outlet, fabricating every schedule 80 black pipe , dialing in the elbows, adapters, and vibration eliminators so nothing transmits stress back into the system.

Honestly? By the time we got to electric and controls, that was the easy part 😅

End of the day, stamped it during — official seal of approval. That’s the moment that makes all the cutting, rigging, and double-checking worth it.

Nothing better than watching hard work and planning turn into equipment running clean in its new home. 💪

Now we just need to insulate these lines and lock in the maintenance contract. 🤑

Part 2 🚨 Rigging day is here — and this chiller made it a good one. 🔧

What you don’t see: the hours of planning and triple-checking that happen before the crane even shows up. One wrong move on a day like this and it’s a very expensive mistake. This is why the right team matters. 👷🏽👷🏼‍♀️🏋️‍♂️

Part 2 🔧 — McQuay Chiller Decommission
✅ Recovered the refrigerant
⚡️ Killed the 460V power feeding the unit
🧃Drained the propylene glycol from the shell & tube heat exchanger and disconnected inlet/outlet piping
🔌 Disconnected controls and main power
🛠️ Freed up vibration eliminators and mounting bolts, cleaned up remaining piping connections — unit is now fully staged for rigging

There is a lot of planning that goes into replacing a chiller. Every step from scheduling the downtime to kicking off the disconnect needs to go smoothly to get the clients up and running ASAP.

10,000 lbs of chiller doing a little sky ballet 🎪 Yeah, we put on our big boy pants for this one. This ain’t our first rodeo, but swapping out this 140-ton beast was a fun one — here’s the old McQuay unit coming out to make room for the new . This McQuay 140-ton is cooked. 20+ years old, sitting right next to the ocean — salt air got into everything. This refrigerant circuit is telling us bedtime stories in error codes.

When a machine this size gives up, it doesn’t go quietly. It rattles, it groans, it throws faults like it’s trying to say something before the lights go out.

140 tons of cooling. Gone.

Time to spec the replacement. 💀❄️
